The last year has been very depressing for a lot of people owing to the credit crunch and people losing their jobs. Because of the poor economy bankers have been mostly to blame and the news about M P’s claiming expenses to which they are not entitled has led to a major revolt amongst the general public. Most people don’t know much about politics and are quite happy to place their vote for the M P and political party who they feel would make things better. However, because of all the scandal regarding M P’s expenses it has turned a lot of people away from voting and at the next general election there could be a very poor turnout. People who have lost their jobs and even their homes because they cannot afford the mortgage payments feel very bitter and rightly so. Bankers and M P’s get huge salaries that the ordinary working man can never hope to earn in a life time and yet they are rewarding themselves huge bonuses and claiming expenses for second homes. Since MP’s expenses have attracted so much attention in the newspapers and on television, many from all parties have been forced to leave and the Prime Minister Gordon Brown is under pressure to call an early general election. Public confidence in the government has hit an all time low and it may take quite some time for people to trust politicians again.
